In a significant step towards modernizing law enforcement, the Andhra Pradesh Police organized a three-day Strategic Retreat in Vijayawada, focusing on building a Future-Ready Police Force aligned with the AP Police Vision 2047. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu participated in the concluding session, emphasizing that policing must evolve faster than crime in the digital age.

Held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smritivanam Convention Centre (also referred to as Kala Vedika), the retreat brought together senior IPS officers, officials from fire services, prisons, prosecution, State Protection Force, and forensic science laboratories. It was inaugurated by Home Minister Smt. Vangalapudi Anitha and DGP Sri Harish Kumar Gupta, IPS.

The event marked the revival of the Police Retreat after 25 years — an initiative originally introduced by CM Chandrababu Naidu in 2001. Discussions centered on emerging challenges and forward-looking solutions.

Participants engaged in in-depth presentations and brainstorming on critical areas, including:

Experts from premier institutions like IIT-Madras, IIT-Tirupati, IIM-Visakhapatnam, and the International Road Federation shared global best practices.

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha advocated shifting from reactive to proactive policing through the '3P' model — Predict, Precaution, and Prevention. She highlighted successes such as a nearly 4% reduction in crimes against women, effective anti-ganja efforts via the EAGLE initiative, and improved 112 emergency response.

DGP Harish Kumar Gupta stressed designing policing systems for 2047, when many crimes will be digital-first with minimal physical evidence. Key announcements included recruiting tech talent (coding, cryptography, cybersecurity experts), establishing a dedicated drone surveillance system at Police Headquarters, and evaluating performance based on crimes prevented, not just cases registered.

Addressing the officers, Chief Minister Naidu urged the leadership to embrace new technologies, strengthen intelligence-led and preventive policing, invest in continuous training, and build capabilities to outpace threats.

A Special Task Force under the Chief Minister is planned to tackle emerging crimes.
